Prove You Are A Christian

1 Peter 3:15b: . . . be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

2 Corinthians 13:5: Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

A Christian should be able to prove to any man (including himself) that he is a Christian. Some unbelievers will prove that they are unbelievers by rejecting the proof that you give them. But we still ought to give them the proof. Pastor Joel Logan put together three Biblical proofs that we are Christians. The Holy Spirit causes all three. One. The witness of the Holy Spirit to your spirit. Two. Your love for the Lord Jesus. Three. Your love for other Christians. The Holy Spirit witnesses to our spirits and the fruit of the Spirit is love, love for Jesus, and love for other believers.

Romans 8:16: The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

If the Holy Spirit has never communicated to your heart that you are a child of God, you are not a child of God.

John 8:42: Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

If you do not love the Lord Jesus, you are not a child of God.

1 John 3:14: We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

If you do not love Christians you are not a child of God.

John 14:15: If ye love me, keep my commandments.

The evidence that we love Jesus is that we obey Him.

Galatians 6:10: As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

1 John 3:17: But whoso hath this world*s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

The evidence that we love Christians is that we will meet their needs when we are able. If we do not seek out Christians and associate with them looking for ways to help them, it is evidence that we do not love them. Apathy is not love.

If the Holy Spirit has never revealed to you that you are a child of God, you do not demonstrate love for the Lord Jesus and for Christians, how can you believe you are one?
